The Island

by Athol Fugard
September 3-13, 2008
Directed by Michael O'Foghludha
Featuring Thaddaeus Edwards and LaMark Wright

The place: Robben Island, South Africa's notorious apartheid–era prison, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. In Fugard's modern classic, two political prisoners, rehearsing a performance of Antigone in their cramped cell, must balance personal loyalties against their struggle to survive. The Island celebrates the strength of friendship and the power of the human spirit.
